Question 842433: A bus travels 100 km to another town at a speed of 75 km/hr. what must be its return rate, if the total time for the round trip is to be 3 hrs Answer by TheInstructor(29) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Hi!
The bus journey to get there was 100km yes? You were travelling at 75km/hr
So using the Time = Distance /Speed formula;
100/75 = 4/3hrs (which is equivalent to 1hr 20 minutes)
Now your entire journey was 3hrs. The return back to the town would STILL BE 100KM.
So 3hrs-1hr20 mins = 5/3hrs (Equivalent to 1hr 40mins)
Now remember our formula? Speed = Distance/ Time
So therefore: S = 100000m /100min
1000m/per minute
There are 60minutes in an hour
So 60 x 1000 = 60,000m (which is also equivalent to 60km/hr)
Therefore the return rate is at 60km/hr!
Hope that helped! :)
