Question 842211: I am in algebra right now and we are going over systems and how to solve them using two equations. Example: 4x + 3y =19 and -3x +2y =-8. And finding the point on the graph at which they meet. My question on my homework is.... The bank has a large display of pennies and nickels . The value of the coins are 24 dollars. How many of each coin is in the display? I started out by giving everything variables and have tried various equations but just can't seem to get the correct answer! If you could help that would be great!

Hi,
The bank has a large display of pennies and nickels . The value of the coins are 24 dollars.
Having no information as to the number of pennies and nickels, one can only
assume there are an equal number highlight_green%28x%29 of each of them:
CENTS makes sense:
x + 5x = 2400¢
6x = 2400
x = 400 (400 pennies and 400 nickels)
400¢ + 2000¢ = 2400¢ 0r $24.00
