Question 84135: Can someone help me with this question please? I really have a hard time trying to figure the quations of a word problem.
Suppose you travel north for 35 kilometers then travel east 65 kilometers. How far are you from your starting point? North and east can be considered the directions of the y- and x-axis respectively. Round to the tenth's place.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I TRIED TO EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM AS IT IS CHANGED INTO A GRAPHING PROBLEM WHICH WHEN PLOTTED FORMES A RIGHT TRIANGLE SO YOU COULD VISUALIZE WHAT ARE DOING.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
YOU HAVE CREATED A RIGHT TRIANGLE WITH SIDES OF 35 & 65. NOW FIND THE HYPOTENUSE THUS:
35^2+65^2=H^2
1225+4225=H^2
5450=H^2
H=SQRT5450
H=73.8 KILOMETERS FRM THE STARTING POINT.
