Question 838687: A linear system is given.
y= 1/5x - 3 line 1
y= -2/7x +1 line 2
a) Explain why the following is an equivalent linear system.

x-5y=15 line 3
2x+7y=7 line 4
b) If you graph all four lines, what results do you expect? Graph to check.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A linear system is given.
y= 1/5x - 3 line 1
y= -2/7x +1 line 2
a) Explain why the following is an equivalent linear system.
----
y= 1/5x - 3 line 1
Multiply by 5
5y = x - 15
Subtract 5y
0 = x - 5y - 15
Add 15
x - 5y = 15 which is line 3 below.
-------
Line 2 is the same as line 4.

x-5y=15 line 3
2x+7y=7 line 4
b) If you graph all four lines, what results do you expect? Graph to check.
You get the same 2 lines twice.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a)multiply line 1 by 5 to get line 3
multiply line 2 by 7 to get line 4
b) two lines that intersect since line one and line three are identical and line 2 and 4 are identical
