Question 838522: I'm trying to solve for values of x and y. I have a right triangle with one side = y, one 4x-7, and the hypoteneuse is 6x+4. Inside this triangle is another triangle with the hypoteneuse making a triangle with the right angle. the leg of the inner triangle that touches y and the hypoteneuse of the outer triangle is x. How do I solve this?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If they're right triangles, you can use the Pythagorean theorem,
H%5E2=A%5E2%2BB%5E2, where H is the hypotenuse.
From what you're saying,
y%5E2%2B%284x-7%29%5E2=%286x%2B4%29%5E2
but I'm not sure of the sides and hypotenuse of the second triangle.
You'll then have two equations with two unknowns x and y.
