You can put this solution on YOUR website!

If 14 gallons of gasoline cost $43.12, find the cost of 35 gallons of gasoline.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

1st) Set up a proportion. Make sure that both ratios/fractions have the same things on top and bottom. If you put money on the top of one, the other has to have money on the top as well.

Let x= Cost of 35 gallons of gasoline

$43.12/14 gallons = x/35 gallons

-------------------------------------------------------
2nd.) Cross Multiply and solve for "x".

$43.12/14 gallons = x/35 gallons
14x=$43.12(35)
14x=$1509.20
14x/14=$1509.20/14
x=$107.80

-------------------------------------------------------
3rd.) Answer.

35 gallons of gasoline will cost $107.80
