J = another
I = 4J -3
I + J = 42 .
substitute (4J -3) for I
(4J -3) + J = 42
5J -3 = 42
add 3 to each side
5J = 45
divide each side by 5
J = 9
Since I = 4J -3 , I = 4*9 - 3 = 36 - 3 = 33
So the two numbers are 9 and 33
