Question 837468: This is a system of two equations word problem. please set up the equations: At the Boy Scouts "all you can eat" spaghetti dinner, the troop served 210 people and raised $935. Adult meals cost $6.00 and children meals cost $3.50. How many adult and child dinners were served?
I am having difficulty setting up the equations but no problem solving them.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Let number of adults = a
Let number of children = c
-------------------------------------------
Total number of people: a + c = 210
Total amount raised: 6a + 3.5c = $935.00
-------------------------------------------
1st.) From the information about the total number of people we can say:
a+c=210
a+c-c=210-c
a=210-c
-------------------------------------------
2.) Plug our "a" value we found in step 1) in the equation for the "total amount raised" to find how many adults and children were there.
Note: Total amount raised: 6a + 3.5c = $935.00
6(210-c) + 3.5c = $935.00
-------------------------------------------
You said you just needed the set up so I'll let you finish it.
