R = Ray's age
B = Becky's age
R = 2B + 3
R + B = 27
Substitute (2B + 3) for R in R + B = 27
(2B + 3) + B = 27
3B + 3 = 27
add -3 to each side
3B = 24
divide by 3
B = 8
Since R = 2B + 3
R = 2(8) + 3
R = 16 + 3
R = 19
