You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Need the answer to the problem (1 3/4 + 2 3/8) + 5 7/8 Need answer written in simplest form and need it explained in a way that a 5th grader would understand
(1 3/4 + 2 3/8) + 5 7/8
-------
((4*1+3)/4 + (8*2+3)/8) + (8*5+7)/8
--------
= [(7/4)+(19/8)] + (47/8)
--------
Change 7/4 to 14/8
--------
= [(14/8)+(19/8)) + (47/8)
--------
= [33/8] + (47/8)
-------
= [80/8
-------
= 10
==============================
Another way to attack the problem::
(1 3/4 + 2 3/8) + 5 7/8
----
Add the whole numbers: 1 + 2 + 5 = 8
Add the fractions: (3/4)+(3/8)+(7/8)
Change the (3/4) to 6/8 to get:
(6/8)+(3/8)+(7/8 = 16/8 = 2
-------
Add the sum of the whole numbers to the sum of the fractions
to get: 8 + 2 = 10

Hope that helps.
