That is three different variables.

You mean this:
y=0.5x+2
-y=-2x+4

Solve the second equation for y, and then equate the two expressions of y.
2x-4=0.5x+2
Solve for x, and then use either equation to solve for y.

y=0.5x+2
-y=-2x+4
substitute 0.5x+2 for y in -y=-2x+4
-(0.5x+2)=-2x+4
-0.5x - 1 = -2x + 4
add 2x to each side
1.5x -1 = 4
add 1 to each side
1.5x = 3
divide each side by 1.5
x = 2
Since y = 0.5x + 2 , y = 1 + 2 = 3
y = 3

Y=0.5x+2

If it's y = 0.5x + 2 ------ eq (i), and
- y = - 2x + 4 ------ eq (ii), then:
- (0.5x + 2) = - 2x + 4 ----- Substituting 0.5x + 2 for y in eq (ii)
- 0.5x - 2 = - 2x + 4
- 0.5x + 2x = 4 + 2
1.5x = 6
x+=+6%2F1.5, or highlight_green%28x+=+4%29
y = 0.5(4) + 2 ------ Substituting 4 for x in eq (i)
y = 2 + 2, or highlight_green%28y+=+4%29
