Question 832172: The cost to produce one compact disc is $1.75 plus a one-time fixed cost of $2500. The revenue received from selling one compact disc is $12.
Write a formula that gives the cost C of producing x compact discs. Be sure to include the fixed cost.
Write a formula that gives the revenue R from selling x compact discs.

PROFITABILITY occurs when Revenue is greater than Cost. Write an inequality representing the point at which PROFITABILITY is achieved.
Solve the inequality from part ‘c’ to find how many compact discs must be sold to reach PROFITABILITY.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The cost to produce a disk is:
2500 + 1.75x = C
That's the fixed cost + the variable cost.
How much can you make?
R = 12x - (2500+1.75x)
You can also write it as
R = 12x - c
.
When does cost equal revenue? Let's find out
The profit on each disk is $12-1.75 or $10.25
When does that meet the fixed cost of 2500?
Divide 2500 / 10.25
Since you don't sell part of a disk, round up.
2500/10.25= ~244
