Question 832107: I need help setting up a problem.
Jill added gas to her gas tank when it was half full. 2 days later she added more gas when it was 3/4 full. She added 181/2 gallons all together. How large is her gas tank? I tried this: 1/4X + 1/2X =181/2 solve for x then plug into the equation. 1/4X + 1/2X=37/2 ; 3/4x=37/2; X=242/3 divide this by 2 and 4. Then add the results plus 1/4 more so 61/2+61/2+121/3 =245/3

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1/2x+a=x,
3/4x+b=x,
a+b=181/2
a = 181/3, b = 181/6, x = 362/3
a=60.333, b=30.167, x=120.67
