note that log base 6 (6) = 1, therefore we have
log base 6 (x) = log base 6 (6) - log base 6 (x-5)
log base 6 (x) = log base6 (6 /(x-5))
x = 6 / (x -5)
x^2 -5x = 6
x^2 -5x - 6 = 0
(x-6)*(x+1) = 0
x = 6 or -1
we can eliminate x = -1 since the log of a negative number is not defined
check the answer
log base 6 (6) = log base 6 (6) - log base 6 (6-5)
1 = 1 - 0
1 = 1
our answer checks :-)
