The easiest way for me to do this is visually, on a graph. But we can do it mathematically as well.

Imagine a grid.
2 blocks north - 1 block south = 1 block north of the starting point.
3 blocks east - 3 blocks west = the same starting point on the x-axis.

George is 1 block north of his starting point.
