Together rate: 1/4 job/hr
X rate: 1/6 job/hr
Y rate: 1/x job/hr

Equation:
rate + rate = together rate
1/x + 1/6 = 1/4
------
Multiply thru by 12x to get:
12 + 2x = 3x
x = 12 hrs (time for "y" to do the job alone
