You can put this solution on YOUR website! a. x + 1 y= 500000
b.10.00%x
c.5.00% y
d.10.00% x + 5.00% y= 53000
Total investment
x + 1 y= 500000 -------------1
Interest on both investments
10.00% x + 5.00% y= 53000
Multiply by 100
10 x + 5 y= 5300000.00 --------2
Multiply (1) by -10
we get
-10 x -10 y= -5000000.00
Add this to (2)
0 x -5 y= 300000
divide by -5
y = -60000
Part I 10.00% $ 560000
Part II 5.00% $ -60000
CHECK
560000 --------- 10.00% ------- 56000.00
-60000 ------------- 5.00% ------- -3000.00
Total -------------------- 53000.00
