You can put this solution on YOUR website!
How many gallons of a 14% salt solution must be mixed with a 38% salt solution to make 40 gallons of 20% salt solution?
------------------
Equation:
salt + salt = salt
0.14x + 0.38(40-x) = 0.20*40
----------
14x + 38(40) - 38x = 20*40
----------
-24x = -18*40
-----
x = (3/4)40
x = 30 gallons (amt. of 14% solution needed)
40-x = 10 gallons (amt. of 38% solution needed)
