Question 829067: A rectagular pool is 8cm longer than it is wide. A walkway 2cm wide surrounds the pool WHat are the dimensions of the pool if the area of the walkways is 176cm^2?
This is what I got... Could you please check it.
(w+12)(w+4)=w(w+8)+176
(8w+128)/8
w=16 l=28

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Pool length - L
Pool width - W
Walkway length - L%2B4
Walkway width - W%2B4
Area of the pool - L%2AW
Area of the walkway is the length of walkway multiplied by width of walkway minus the area of the pool - %28L%2B4%29%28W%2B4%29-LW=176
L=W%2B8
Substituting,
%28W%2B8%2B4%29%28W%2B4%29-%28W%2B8%29%28W%29=176
%28W%2B12%29%28W%2B4%29-W%28W%2B8%29=176<--- You're right up to here.
Now multiply and combine terms.
I'm a bit confused by what you have written down.
You will get integer answers to your problem.
