: please help me with this problem its a story problem and I apoligize if its under the wrong heading:
If a certain number, two thirds of it, half of it, and a seventh of it are added together, the result is 97. What is the number? This question is from textbook Algebra 1
You can put this solution on YOUR website! ok call your number x
then find common denominator which will divide by 3, 2 and 7.
The smallest one i found is 42 so
add all the numbers together, you get cross multiply now add all the numbers with x, you get divide both sides by 97 and you get
x=42 :)
that's your number!
You can put this solution on YOUR website! x+2/3x+1/2x+1/7x=97 find a common denominator so we can add the fractions:
7*2*3=42 so we change every fraction to have a denominator of 42 & add the numerators thus:
2/3=2*14/42=28/42
1/2=1*21/42=21/42
1/7=1*6/42=6/42
(42+28+21+6)x/42=97
97x/42=97 now we cross multiply:
97x=42*97
x=42*97/97
x=42 answer for the original number.
proof
42+42/2+42/3+42/7=97
42+28+21+6=97
97=97
