You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Two cars were sold at auction to a buyer who paid a total of $2000.00 for both cars. If the more expensive of the two cars was $240 less than three times the price of the cheaper car, how much was the more expensive car?
-------------
Let price of cheaper car be "x" dollars.
Then the price of the more expensive car is 3x-240.
---------------
EQUATION:
x+3x-240=2000
4x=2240
x=$560 (price of cheaper car)
2000-x=$1440 (price of more expensive car)
================
