Question 82588: If points A, B, and C lie on a coordinate line and points A and B have coordinates 15 and 7 respectively, then which of the possible coordinates for point C satisfy(ies) d(A,C)< d(B,C)?
The answers are: a) 12
b) 17
c) both (a) and (b)
d) neither (a) nor (b)
This is my solution, but I don't know if it's correct.
(17-15)=2 (12-15)= -3
(7-17)=-10 (7-12)= -5
My answer was neither (a) nor (b). Could you please confirm? Thank you.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Draw the picture and remember d(a,b) is never negative.
d(a,b) is a quantity
d = sqrt(a-b)^2
or
d= |a-b|
----------------
Answer is "a".
