I calculated that the Hare will cover 1,000 feet in 2.8min. while the Tortoise will be at 1,125.25 feet after 2.8 min. Could you please help me with what formula to use for this problem? Thank you, Phoebe

You can put this solution on YOUR website! The Hare is traveling at 6ft. per 1 second, the Tortoise is traveling at 6ft. per 8 seconds. The Tortoise has a head start of 1,000 feet. When will the Hare pass the Tortoise? I calculated that the Hare will cover 1,000 feet in 2.8min. while the Tortoise will be at 1,125.25 feet after 2.8 min. Could you please help me with what formula to use for this problem? ---------------
The hare is moving 6 ft/sec
The tortoise is moving 3/4 ft/sec
The hare is "gaining on" the tortoise at 5.25 ft/sec (6 - 3/4)
 1000/5.25 =~ 190.476 seconds
 or 3.175 minutes
 ---------------------
I don't know of a formula to use. Sometime you just figure it out.
