You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Find the average rate of change for the function between the given values.
f(x) = sqrt 2x ; from 2 to 8
------------
Average = [f(8)-f(2)]/[8-2]
= [sqrt(16)-sqrt(4)]/6
= (4-2)/6
= 2/6
= 1/3

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
f%28x%29+=+sqrt%28+2x%29
f%282%29+=+sqrt%28+2%282%29%29+=+sqrt%284%29+=+2
f%288%29+=+sqrt%282%288%29%29+=+sqrt%2816%29+=+4

So the function f includes the points (2, 2) and (8, 4). The average rate of change is simply the slope between these points:
avg. rate of change = %284-2%29%2F%288-2%29+=+2%2F6+=+1%2F3
