Question 823442: A linear function is given.
a. Find the average rate of change of the function x=a and x=a+h
b. Show that the average rate of change is the same as the slope of the line
f(x)= 1/2x+3
Please help. I am not very good with these kind of equations.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A linear function is given.
a. Find the average rate of change of the function x=a and x=a+h
b. Show that the average rate of change is the same as the slope of the line
f(x)= 1/2x+3
-------
f(a+h) = (1/2)(a+h)+3 = (1/2)a + (1/2)h + 3
f(a) = (1/2)a + 3
------
f(a+h)-f(a) = (1/2)h
------
Average = [f(a+h)-f(a)]/[(a+h)-a] = [(1/2)h]/h = 1/2
----------------------------
