x+2y=-12
3x+8y=38 Found 2 solutions by LinnW, TimothyLamb:Answer by LinnW(1048) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! x+2y=-12
3x+8y=38
Multiply the top equation by -3
-3x -6y = 36
3x +8y = 38 add these together
2y = 74
y = 37
Substitute in x+2y=-12
x+2(37)=-12
x+74 = -12
Subtract 74 from each side
x = -86
Substitute in x+2y=-12
-86 + 2y=-12
Add 86 to each side
2y = 74
y = 37
