The formula for the volume of a cylinder is

Since the diameter is 4 ft, the radius is 2 feet.

So we substitute 3.14 for pi, 2 for r and 1 for h

V%22%22=%22%223.14%2A2%5E2%2A1

V%22%22=%22%223.14%2A4%2A1

V%22%22=%22%2212.56

So you will need about 12.6 cubic feet of dirt.
