Hi,
If the ratio of Republicans to Democrats in a district is 4 to 9,
Let 4x and 9x represent the number of Republicans and Democrats respectively
a total of 2210 Republicans and Democrats in that district
4x+%2B+9x+=+2210
13x = 2200
x = 170
Number Republicans 4x Or 680
Number Democrats 9x Or 1530
total Republicans and Democrats 2210

r=4x,
d=9x,
13x=2210
x=170
r=680
d=1530
