1st Exam  x           

2nd Exam  x +7        

3rd Exam  x + 8       

average score of 87:  Total points for the 3 exams = 261

  x + (x+7) + (x+8) = 261    |Solve for x

           3x = 246

            x = 82

1st Exam  x           82

2nd Exam  x +7        89

3rd Exam  x + 8       90
