Question 815784: Hello,
I need help with the solution for this problem, but I would also like to understand the rationale so that I am able to complete similar problems independently in the future. I am looking for someone to tutor me for a Quantitative Analysis course using Finite Mathematics textbook
The manager of a peach orchard is trying to decide when to arrange for picking the peaches. If they are picked now, the average yield per tree will be 100 pounds, which can be sold for .40 per lb. Past experience shows that the yield per tree will increase by about 5 pounds per week, whilel the price will decrease by .02 per week.
(a) Let x represent the number of weeks that the manager should wait. Find the price per pound.
(b) Find the number of pounds per tree.
(c) Find the total revenue from a tree.
(d) When should the peaches be picked in order to produce the maximum revenue?
(e) What is the maximum revenue?
If possible, please explain how or why you arrive at your answers.

Hi,
average yield per tree will be 100 pounds, which can be sold for .40 per lb.
yield per tree will increase by about 5 pounds per week, while the price will decrease by .02 per week.
(a) Let x represent the number of weeks that the manager should wait. Find the price per pound. %28.40-.02x%29
(b) Find the number of pounds per tree. %28100%2B5x%29
(c) Find the total revenue from a tree.
R+=+%28100%2B5x%29%28.40-.02x%29 = 40 + 2x - 2x - .1x^2
R+=+-.1x%5E2+%2B+40 Parabola V(0,40) opening downward
(d) When should the peaches be picked in order to produce the maximum revenue?
NOW
(e) What is the maximum revenue? $40
