Question 815667: I've been working on a Thanksgiving break assignment, and just recently came across a problem I can't to remember how to solve. I need to explain how to write a function with a zero of .5. Any help would be really wonderful as I just can not remember learning this, and my note book doesn't seem to have any good information on it inside either. Thanks in advance.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Work backwards from the solution:

x = 0.5
x - 0.5 = 0 {subtracted 0.5 from each side}
(x - 0.5)(x - 0.5) = 0 {wrote as two binomials multiplied equal to zero}
x(x) + x(-0.5) - 0.5(x) - 0.5(-0.5)= 0 {used foil method}
x˛ - 0.5x - 0.5x + 0.25 = 0 {multiplied through}
x˛ - x + 0.25 = 0 {combined like terms}
