after two hours of journey they will be at a distance of 300miles anf 400miles respectively from the airport.

The distance between the two planes is the hypotenus of the triangle.
so the distance between the planes is square root(300^2 + 400^2) which is 500miles.
so the planes are at 500miles from each other.
