First, find the surface area for each side:
1.) Area of a rectangle is A=ab, where a=4, and b=1
A=4%2A1
A=4
2.) Area of a square is A=s%5E2, where s=1
A=1%5E2
A=1
Since this is a rectangular box, there are 4 sides, 2 rectangular and 2 square. Taking the results from above:
rectangular surface area is 4%2A2=8
square surface area is 1%2A2=2
add them together 8%2B2=10ft%5E2
