To figure out the total number of students if there are 12 more boys than girls, you have to figure out what the ratio of boys to girls are if there are 12 more boys.
So you would get 12:? Now we divide 12 by 4 and we get 3. Since we got 3, we could multiply the original ratio of 4:1 with 3.
4*3:1*3=12:3 Now you just add 12 with 3 and you get 15 students.
Therefore the total number of students in the class are 15, if there are 12 more boys than girls.
