Question 811420: I previously asked this same question but the person who answer'd did not make sense, So i'm asking again but please explain clearly.
my question is, Isabella rode her bike at a constant speed, she took 2 hours to travel 216km with the wind behind her. The return trip took her 3hours to ride into the wind.
A) Let s represent the speed of the motorcycle and w respresent the speed of the wind. Write a linear system to represent this situation.
B)Find the speed of the motorcycle and the speed of the wind.
Thanks for your help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Isabella rode her bike at a constant speed, she took 2 hours to travel 216km with the wind behind her.
The return trip took her 3hours to ride into the wind.
A) Let s represent the speed of the motorcycle and w represent the speed of the wind.
Write a linear system to represent this situation.
A distance equation for each way; (dist = time * speed)
2(s+w) = 216
3(s-w) = 216
:
B)Find the speed of the motorcycle and the speed of the wind.
Simplify both these equations, divide the 1st by 2; divide the 2nd by 3
s + w = 108
s - w = 72
-------------Adding eliminates w, find s
2s = 180
s = 180/2
s = 90 km/hr, must be a jet-bike!
Find the wind
90 + w = 108
w = 108 - 90
w = 18 km/hr is the wind

:
Check the solutions in the original equations
2(90+18) = 216
and
3(90-18) = 216
