take log of each side
log(7^x) = log(43)
xlog(7) = log(43)
divide each side by log(7)
x = log(43) / log(7)
b) 14^( -x ) = 2
take log of each side
log(14^x) = log(2)
xlog(14) = log(2)
x = log(2) / log(14)
