x - y = 6
find the number if one number is 1/4 of other.
x/4 = y
Substitute into:
x - y = 6
x - x/4 = 6
Common denominator = 4
4x - x = 24
3x = 24
x = 8
x - y = 6
8 - y = 6
-y = 6 - 8
y = 2
