The elevation at the bottom of the canyon is -50ft (50 feet below sea level). The elevation of the top of the canyon is 900 feet (900 above sea level). What is your vertical speed in feet per hour? What is an equation that describes the relationship between your elevation (in feet) and hours hiked?

950/5=190 ft per hr

1 pm is 13:00
8 am is 8:00
from 8 am to noon is 4 hours plus one hour from noon to 1 pm
It takes you 13-8=5 hours for the climb
You travel 950 vertical feet
(50 below sea level and 900 above)
950/5=190 ft per hour if the speed is constant. Obviously, you will go slower towards the end of the climb
h=190t where h is elevation and t is the time (hours) traveled
