The elevation at the bottom of the canyon is -50ft (50 feet below sea level). The elevation of the top of the canyon is 900 feet (900 above sea level). What is your vertical speed in feet per hour? 1 pm is 13:00
8 am is 8:00
from 8 am to noon is 4 hours plus one hour from noon to 1 pm
It takes you 13-8=5 hours for the climb
You travel 950 vertical feet
(50 below sea level and 900 above)
950/5=190 ft per hour if the speed is constant. Obviously, you will go slower towards the end of the climb
h=190t where h is elevation and t is the time (hours) traveled
