Question 803914: Please help me solve this problem. I am having difficulty figuring out an equation I can use to graph the solution, as well. Thank you! "An athlete jogs 4 miles away from home at a constant rate of 8 miles per hour, and then turns around and jogs back home at the same speed. Sketch a graph that shows the distance the athlete is from home."

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"An athlete jogs 4 miles away from home at a constant rate of 8 miles per hour, and then turns around and jogs back home at the same speed. Sketch a graph that shows the distance the athlete is from home."
----
Jogs out DATA:
time = distance/rate = 1/2 hr
distance = rate*time = 8*t where t = time.
------
Jogs back DATA
distance = -8t
-----
Equation is segmented
d = 8t when 0<= t <= 1/2 hr
d = -8t when 1/2 < t <= 1 hr
==============================
The graph looks like an upside-down V starting at (0,0), then rising
to (1/2,8) then decending to (1,0)
================================
Cheers,
Stan H.
