Question 803531: The lengths of the sides of a triangle are consecutive even integers. The perimeter is 22cm shorter than 4 times the length of the longest side. Find the lengths of all three sides.
I tried:
P=a+b+c
22=x+x+2+x+4
22=3x + 6
-6 -6
16/3=3x/3
that's as far as I got. I don't get it.
Please help,
thank you

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The lengths of the sides of a triangle are consecutive even integers. The perimeter is 22cm shorter than 4 times the length of the longest side. Find the lengths of all three sides.
ANswer
sides: x , x+2 and x+4
Perimeter = x+(x+2)+(x+4) = 3x+6
then: 3x+6 = 4(x+4)-22
3x+6 = 4x-6
3x-4x = -6-6
-x = -12
x = 12
sides: 12, 14 and 16
