Convert to improper frations, mixed numbers are of no use.
= 31/8 + 4/3
Find a common denominator for 8 & 3. The product always works, 8*3 = 24
= 93/24 + 32/24
= 125/24
-----------
1 2/3 - 3/8
Do the same as above, get the difference.
