Question 8027: Hope someone can help me with this.
The question I have is +sqrt%28+1.18+%29+ BUT there is a "12" sitting on top of the tip of the square root (like an index to the square root).
I know the answer is 1.01389 but I don't know how to get the answer manually or using a calculator.
Any help would be most appreciated!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If you want to use a calculator for this, then you would enter:
1.18^(1/12)
Another way is to use logarithms. I don't know whether or not you are familiar with logarithms, but here it is.
Let: x+=+%281.18%29%5E%281%2F12%29 Raise both sides to the 12th power.
x%5E12+=+1.18 Take the log of both sides.
12logx+=+log%281.18%29 Divide both sides by 12.
logx+=+%28log%281.18%29%29%2F12 Rewrite in exponential form.
10%5E%28logx%29+=+10%5E%28%28log1.18%29%2F12%29
x+=+10%5E%280.00599%29
x+=+1.013888 Round to fifth decimal place.
x+=+1.01389
