Question 80213: Hi there! I am a Parent who is in need of some assistance. It has been years since I've done this, and I need a way to help to explain it to my Daughter, who is in the sixth grade. I have no idea of how to even attempt to show her, but if I see the work and how it is done, I'm sure I will remember. I'm going to list the three problems that she has. Thank you.
1). 5X - 13=27
2). 3/8W + 7=65
3). d/4 + 18 =24

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
5x-13=27
First add 13 to both sides of the equation to get the x term alone:
5x=40
Divide each side of the equation by 5 to solve for x:
highlight%28x=8%29
----------------------------------------
3w%2F8%2B7=65
Subtract 7 from each side...
3w=58
Divide each side by 3 to solve for w:
w=58%2F3
Generally, they want the student to convert this improper fraction to a mixed number for the final answer:
highlight%28w=19%2B1%2F3%29
----------------------------------------
d%2F4%2B18=24
Subtract 18 from both sides...
d%2F4=6
Multiply each side by 4 to get d alone (the 4's cancel on the left side):
highlight%28d=24%29
Good Luck,
