You can put this solution on YOUR website! Under pressure to make a deadline, an office manager directs her fastest typist to type a document that should take 40 mins. After 15 mins, she realizes the typist won't make the deadline and she asks a second, slower typist to start typing some of the pages. Fifteen minutes later the document is finished. How long would it have taken the slower typist to type the document?
-------
1st typist does 15/40 = 3/8 of the job.
------
2nd typist DATA:
time = 15 min for 5/8 job
------
Let rate be "x"
job/rate = time
-----
(5/8)/x = 15 min
x = (5/8)/15
x = 1/24 job/min
=====
2nd typist time 24 min/job
----------------------------
Cheers,
Stan H.
