Question 800615: The Multiple-Choice Question that is on my study guide:
The graph of which of the following equations is a straight line parallel to the graph of y=2x?
A. 4x - y = 4
B. 2x -2y = 2
C. 2x - y = 4
D. 2x + y = 2
E. x - 2y = 4
Now, I know that to have parallel lines, the slope of both lines should be the same. The slope is 2x, so the slope of the second line should be 2x. I don't think I understand what slope looks like on a graph. But most of all, I dont really know how to get to the answer, or work this problem out. I'm wondering HOW to work this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thankyou!

You can put this solution on YOUR website! The graph of which of the following equations is a straight line parallel to the graph of y=2x?
slope = 2
-----------------------
A. 4x - y = 4
y = 4x-4
slope = 4
------------------
B. 2x -2y = 2
2y = 2x -2
y = x -1
slope = 1
------------------
C. 2x - y = 4
y = 2x - 4
slope = 2
-------------------
D. 2x + y = 2
y = -2x + 2
slope = -2
====================
E. x - 2y = 4
2y = x - 4
y = (1/2)x - 2
slope = 1/2

Note: slope is the amount y increases or decreases when x increases by 1.
