Question 796613: At 8:00 A.M., a train leaves a station and travels at a rate of 46 mph. At 9:00 A.M., a second train leaves the same station on the same track and travels in the direction of the first train at a speed of 69 mph. At 10:00 A.M., how far apart are the two trains?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
At 10 AM, the 46 mph train was traveling for 2 hours, and the 69 mph train was traveling for 1 hour.

rate*time= distance for the 46 mph train,
rate*time= distance for the 69 mph train, but
different values for each.

This uses subtraction because we want the difference in the two trains' distances.
