Hi there,
Heights:
Carl = x
Barbara = x + 12
Albert = (x + 12) + 9
Add all the heights:
x + (x + 12) + (x + 21) = 393
Remove brackets;
x + x + 12 + x + 21 = 393
3x + 33 = 393
3x = 393 - 33
3x = 360
x = 360/3
x = 120 cm
Heights:
Carl = 120 cm
Barbara = 132 cm
Albert = 141 cm
Total = 393 cm
