:
let s = speed of the slower car
then
2.5s = the speed of the faster
:
The relative speed is additive,
Write a distance equation, dist = time * speed
3.5(s + 2.5s) = 490
3.5s + 8.75s = 490
12.25s = 490
s = 490/12.25
s = 40 mph is the speed of the slower car
then
2.5(40) = 100 mph is the speed of the faster
