Question 795118: Please help and explain how to solve I am very confused, Thank you.
Here is the math problem:
Two vehicles are driving toward an intersection on streets that are perpendicular to one another. A car is traveling at a rate of 30 miles per hour and a fire truck is traveling at a rate of 50 miles per hour. The fire truck is on its way to a fire at the drugstore and is running with the lights and siren. At 0 minutes, the car is 3 miles from the intersection of the two streets and the fire truck is 5 miles from the intersection.
A. What is the rate of the car in miles per minute? What is the rate of the fire truck in miles per minute?
I think it goes like this (30miles/60minutes) = 1mile/2mintes but am unsure why?
B. After 3minutes, how far has the car traveled toward the intersection?
C. After 3minutes, how fas has the fire truck traveled toward the intersection?
D. If both vehicles have been traveling for 4 minutes, how far is each vehicle from the intersection? Answer by ankor@dixie-net.com(22740) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
:
A. What is the rate of the car in miles per minute? = mi per minute
What is the rate of the fire truck in miles per minute? = mi per minute
:
B. After 3minutes, how far has the car traveled toward the intersection?
3 * 1/2 = 1.5 mi
:
C. After 3minutes, how far has the fire truck traveled toward the intersection?
3 * = 2.5 mi
:
D. If both vehicles have been traveling for 4 minutes, how far is each vehicle from the intersection?
Car: 3 - 4(.5) = 1 mi from the intersection
F.T: 5 - 4() = 1 mi from the intersection
