If 3 is added to a number and the sum is tripled.
3(3 + x)
the result is 23 more than the number.
3(3 + x) = 23 + x
9 + 3x = 23 + x
Collect like terms;
2x = 23 - 9
2x = 14
x = 7
The number is 7.
